Library Guides
The Library Guides button in Blackboard automatically opens a new browser window with a web page, created by a librarian, tailored for the subject area of your course. In most cases this works automatically, without any intervention by the instructor, and is an added resource for instructors and students.
There are a few points that could be helpful to know:
- If a librarian has not yet created a subject guide for you, you will be directed to a default web page providing general library resource information.
- Because the web page opens in a new window or tab, your browser might block it from opening. If the page did not open, please disable pop-up blocking and click the link again or click the link in the content area that is displayed.
- The Library Guides link in Blackboard is not easily editable because it contains computer programming code known as as JavaScript. It can be removed using the Manage Course Menu function in the Control Panel of your course site.
- Some Blackboard course sites are cross listed. In such cases, there is no guarantee that the Library Guide link will point to the subject most suitable for your course. You can remove the Library Guides link in the Manage Course Menu section of the Control Panel and add your own link to a more appropriate Library Guide or other web page.
