Email Tool
Instructors can send email to individuals who participate in the Course from the Send Email page via the Control Panel > Course Tools. Emails can be sent to individual users or to groups of users within the Course, such as all Teaching Assistants. By default, a copy of an email will be sent to the sender. There are several email enhancements within Blackboard 8, which include:
- Email Announcement: With a simple click of a check box, the Announcement will be emailed to all the students in addition to being posted on your course site.
- Sending Email from the Grade Center: Instructors can communicate using Email with students from the Grade Center. This form of direct contact allows instructors to actively communicate with relevant students while engaged in grading in the Grade Center. Such immediate feedback can quickly lead to intervention if required, promoting positive outcomes for students.
- Blackboard automatically adds the course ID* to outgoing email messages, in the email subject field.
Effectively using Blackboard's email tool:
- Ask students to verify their email addresses in Blackboard's Personal Information section. Blackboard automatically imports student email addresses from the Student Information System when a student enrolls in a course, but these email addresses may not be the ones regularly used by every student.
- Give specific instructions on how to reply to each email. Recipients of Blackboard emails are blind copied, so they do not know to whom else an email is addressed and may mistakenly "reply all". Conversely you may not know who else had been copied on an email from a student and may duplicate the response of a teaching assistant or other instructor.
