Getting Started
Follow these steps to set up a Blackboard site for your course:Request a Course
Most courses are automatically created before the beginning of each semester. To determine whether or not your course already exists, you must log into Blackboard and check the My Courses listing on your My Blackboard page. If your course does not appear in the list, submit a request (Request a Site) to the Blackboard administrator. You will need to know your NetID and the course number and section.
The login page is located at: https://courses.duke.edu/. You will be directed to a page where you can enter your NetID and password. For help with your NetID or password, contact the OIT Service Desk or call 919-684-2200.
Blackboard Home Page
Upon logging in, you will be directed to your personal Blackboard homepage. Refer to the listing below for a description of features available.
Features:
- My Blackboard tab: This is your gateway to all of the courses that you are developing and teaching. This page also includes a general tool box (6) as well as buttons to customize the look and layout of your Blackboard homepage (5).
- Courses tab: Click this tab to access all courses with which you are associated as an Instructor, Teaching Assistant or Course Builder. Courses from past semesters are accessible here, as well as the full list of courses in the Duke University Course Catalog.
- Organizations: If you are advising a Duke-affiliated organization, Blackboard allows you to manage and communicate with members of your group through organization sites.
- Help: Click this tab or the question mark icon to find answers to all of your Blackboard questions. You can also access Blackboard tutorials, get help with advanced topics and read about new features in the latest version of Blackboard.
- Modify Content and Modify Layout buttons: To change the look of your homepage and make boxes such as Blackboard System Info, My Announcements, Student Information, and My Courses visible, click these buttons.
- Tools: This box includes links to send emails, make announcements and change your personal information (including email address).
