Formats for Text Input to Blackboard
Blackboard's Visual Text Box Editor features vast improvements in creating rich content to use within Blackboard. Integrated into the text box editor are the following:- WYSIWYG (What You See is What You Get) interface allows users to modify content in an environment resembling a word processor and perform basic HTML functions, without knowledge of any HTML. These features include creating tables, bulleted lists, hyperlinks, horizontal lines, and more. Users may also format text and paragraphs and upload multimedia files in the Visual Text Box Editor [NOTE: The Visual Text Box editor is only available by default to Windows Operating System users with Internet Explorer Versions 5.x and 6.x.. For IE 7.x users, please see the tutorial on how to make the Visual Text Box Editor available].
- Spell Check Editor contains a full English dictionary. During the spell check process custom words may be added to the User Dictionary.
By default the Visual Text Box editor is on, but if you are using a browser version that does not support it, you can set the option for the Visual Text Box editor off or on. To do so, under the My Blackboard tab, click the Personal Information link in the Tools box located on the left of the screen and then choose Set Visual Text Box Editor Options. (See a series of screenshots below.)

Options for text input without the WYSIWYG editor to Blackboard are:
- Smart text recognizes HTML tags, such as <B>bold</B> and <I>italics</I>, and will convert Web addresses into hyperlinks.
- Plain text converts Web addresses into hyperlinks but will not recognize other formatting, such as line breaks or bold text. HTML tags will not be interpreted.
- HTML interprets all HTML tags.
