Viewing Multimedia Material on Mac OS X

If you are using Mac OS X and are unable to view course materials that require a multimedia plug-in, try either of the following remedies.

Use a pre-OS X Web browser in Classic mode:

  1. Download a pre-OS X version of Internet Explorer.

  2. Install Internet Explorer.

  3. Download the plug-in you need to view the material on a Blackboard course site, e.g. RealOne Player, Acrobat or QuickTime.

  4. Install the plug-in.

Use Internet Explorer 5.1 for OS X, configured to use a pre-OS X helper application:

  1. Download the plug-in you need to view the material on a Blackboard course site, e.g. RealOne Player, Acrobat or QuickTime.

  2. Install the plug-in.

  3. Start up Internet Explorer 5.1.

  4. Select "Preferences" from the Explorer menu.

  5. In the left pane of the Preferences panel, choose "File Helpers" under "Receiving Files".

  6. In the right pane, scroll down through the list of File Helpers until you find the file format you want to review, next to the name of the plug-in you plan to use.

  7. For each of the file formats you plan to view, click once on the description, then click "Change".

  8. In the Edit File Helper dialog box that appears, select "Handling".

  9. Select "View with Application".

  10. Click "Browse" and navigate to where you installed the plug-in you plan to use.

  11. Select the plug-in and click "OK".

  12. Click "OK" twice to exit Preferences.
