Enhanced Course Menu and Course Map

Detail View and Quick View

Two views of the Course Menu are now available to users:
Quick View – This is the classic view of the course menu. It displays top-level sections of the course shown as below.
Detail View --This view expands to show a hierarchy of folders in the Course Menu which users can expand and collapse, and displays a clickable link to each item in the course shown as below.

If allowed by the instructor, users may toggle between these two views.

Q: How do I set up Quick View and Detail View?
A: If you would like to have both views available for your students to choose from, no action is necessary; this is the default setting.

If you would like to select a preference, you need to go to Control Panel—Course Design—Manage Menu Display Options and then select one of the views. By default, the “Quick View” and “Allow use of both views” are selected as shown below:

Tool Panel

Commonly used tools such as the Communication Panel, Course Tools, and the Course Map are separated (or duplicated) from the main Course Menu area to make them easier to find and use.

The new Tool Panel is underneath the main Course Menu area as shown below.

Tool Panel

Customizations to the Tool Panel, such as making it invisible, changing the name of the Tool Panel, or choosing which links to display, can be made by the instructor through the Control Panel—Course Design—Manage Tool Panel.

Instructors are able to choose which tool links among Communication Panel, Course Tools, and the Course Map to display. If no tools are selected, the Tool Panel will not be displayed on the course menu. Instructors can also rename the Tool Panel (the default name is “Tools”), choose background and text color, and resume the system’s default settings. See the options as illustrated below:
