Blackboard at Duke Help: Your Online Resource for Using Blackboard.

Use Audio or Video

Multimedia novices will want to contact the Center for Instructional Technology (CIT) for assistance.

To use audio or video in your course site:

Follow these steps:

  1. Read and adhere to the Blackboard appropriate use policies. We recommend that faculty use Duke Libraries' e-reserves service to prepare printed materials for use in Blackboard, making sure to follow the Faculty Guidelines for Submitting Articles. Documents hosted on e-reserves are automatically linked to Blackboard.

  2. Digitize your media clips. CIT's IT Lab (West Campus) has digitizing equipment and staff to assist you in capturing your clips.

  3. Format the digitized media clips for streaming on the Web by saving them in an appropriate file format. OIT can recommend proper frame rates and sizes and encoding rates.

Note: information about, and downloads of, multimedia plug-ins are available to view or play the streamed audio and video..

  4. Upload your file to a streaming server. To use the OIT DukeStream to host media clips, contact OIT to obtain an account and recieve instructions on how to transfer clips to the streaming server via FTP.

  5. Link to the media clip, using the URL assigned by OIT.
