How Copyright and Fair Use applies when posting third-party materials to a Blackboard course site
See faculty policy on copyright and electronic course content at http://library.duke.edu/about/depts/scholcomm/copyright-and-fair-use.pdf
The law permits faculty to provide access to copyrighted material for registered students using a Blackboard course site, but they must consider the application of copyright restrictions and exceptions when deciding how to proceed. Here are general measures and associated resources can help with that consideration.
Best practices for adding and organizing content
There are two ways to edit a section in Blackboard:
Option 1: Open the Control Panel and select the Content Area that you want to editOption 2: Go to the Content Area that you want to edit and click Edit View (in the upper right corner). You can also "toggle" back to the student view by clicking Display View.
It is easier to create several folders and then add content to each folder than to copy content into various folders (see Adding Content to a Folder). Try creating a folder for each week of your course (e.g., Week 1, Week 2), or for major topics that you might be covering (e.g., a folder for "Globalization", a folder for "Economy").
Blackboard courses are created with default templates. Many faculty choose to upload a syllabus, course readings and other general content to the Course Documents section.
Adding descriptions to Items, Links, and Folders can help students better find and understand what they're looking for. It is also helpful to explain formats that all students may not be able to open (e.g., "This is a Microsoft Word document").
Blackboard Items can also be used to post content directly. Simply use the description box to copy and paste or add text and images and then click Submit.
