Logging into Blackboard

All Users

If you have a NetID, please continue to login to Blackboard as you always have. All Duke faculty, instructors, students and staff should have NetIDs.

Don't know what a NetID is? Read about NetIDs here.

If you need help getting a NetID, contact the OIT Service Desk at 919-684-2200. If you are unable to get a NetID, you may also contact the OIT Service Desk to request a non-NetID Blackboard account.

Instructors and Organization Leaders

You may want to request non-NetID Blackboard accounts for your students or participants if:

They are from outside Duke and participating in a program whose members are ineligible for NetIDs, such as:
- Study abroad programs
- Talent Identification Program (TIP)
They are from outside Duke and not officially enrolled in your course.
They are collaborators from other institutions.

Test accounts may also be requested for testing purposes and for seeing what your course looks like from a student's perspective.

To request non-NetID Blackboard accounts, contact the OIT Service Desk or call 919-684-2200.

Logging in with a non-NetID Blackboard account

Go to http://courses.duke.edu.
Click the link that reads "Users with Non-NetID Blackboard accounts. Click here."
Enter your username and password.

Guest Access

It is possible for anyone to login with the username "guest" and password "guest", following the instructions for "Logging in with a non-NetID Blackboard account". This account has very limited privileges, but can access courses for which instructors have allowed Guest access.

Troubleshooting access with a non-NetID Blackboard account

If your username and password are invalid, ensure that you did not enter your non-NetID Blackboard username and password on the page titled "Duke University NetID Services".
If you have forgotten your non-NetID Blackboard username or password, contact the OIT Service Desk at 919-684-2200.
